Cette initiative s'inscrit dans le plan d'action DDRS pour 2027. La labellisation implique de respecter des critères, dont l’interdiction des bouteilles en plastique et l'installation de fontaines à eau directement raccordées à l’eau et non réfrigérées. Cependant, cette installation est coûteuse et présente des défis logistiques. L'agrandissement des éviers trop petits pour remplir les gourdes est également coûteux. Néanmoins, en avançant sur le label DDRS, l'université progresse également vers le label "université bleue".
